Rep. A single repetition of a skill — one approach and hit, one pass, one serve. RepRecap is built around the rep as the unit of practice.

Clip. A short video file (5–30 seconds) that you've saved from the rolling buffer. Clips live in your Photos library, inside the team album, and are visible in the RepRecap Library tab. The word "clip" only ever means a saved one — unsaved footage isn't a clip, it's just buffered video that rolls off.

Reel. A stitched-together video built from multiple clips, usually all tagged to the same athlete, with a name card at the start. Reels are what you send to a player or their parents at the end of a season.

Delay. The number of seconds between live (what the camera is seeing right now) and playback (what's showing on the iPad's screen). Set with the delay slider on the Record screen, anywhere from 0 to 60 seconds.

Buffer (or rolling buffer). The pool of recent footage RepRecap holds in memory while recording. The buffer is about 60 seconds long. The playback layer reads from the buffer at "now minus your delay." Anything in the buffer that you don't save rolls off and is gone.

Capture. The continuous recording from the camera into the buffer. Capture is happening any time you're on the Record screen with Start active.

Live feed. What the camera is currently seeing — the most recent moment, not delayed. You see this before you tap Start, but during recording the iPad shows the delayed playback instead.

Playback (or delayed playback). What's shown on the iPad's screen during recording — the camera feed from a few seconds ago. The "replay" half of "delayed replay."

Tag. The link between a clip and an athlete on your roster. Tagged clips can be filtered by athlete and included in per-athlete reels. Untagged clips appear as Unassigned in the Library.

Roster. The list of athletes on your team, set in the Team tab. The roster is what you can tag clips to.

Team album. The Photos album RepRecap creates for storing your clips and reels, named RepRecap — <Team Name>. Visible in the Photos app. RepRecap reads from and writes to this album only — never the rest of your Photos library.

Name card. A short title screen RepRecap adds at the start of a reel, showing the athlete's name and a month/season label. You can edit the text and duration when building the reel.

Save length. The duration of footage captured when you tap Save, counted backward from "now." Default is 10 seconds; configurable in Settings.

AirPlay. Apple's screen-mirroring feature, used to show the iPad's screen on a nearby TV with an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible smart TV. RepRecap doesn't do anything special with AirPlay — it works because iOS does.

Thermal throttle. When the iPad gets too warm, it automatically slows down to cool off. RepRecap responds by dropping capture quality from 1080p to 720p so the replay stays smooth. See Choppy replay for context.

Unassigned. A clip that doesn't have an athlete tag. Shows up in the Library with no name; you can tag it any time.

Pre-roll. A small amount of footage captured before you tap Start so the first rep isn't penalized by an empty buffer. You don't have to do anything for this — it's automatic.
